EA Confirms New FIFA, NHL, Madden and NBA Titles

In an announcement that will surprise precisely no-one, EA has confirmed its next batch of sports titles for the coming fiscal year. As will probably keep happening on a yearly basis unless EA decides to cancel, we can expect to see FIFA 17, NHL 17, Madden 17 and a new NBA Live title sometime in the next 12 months.

The news came out of EAs latest earnings report and while not surprising news, it does give us some timelines to expect the new stuff. FIFA, NHL and Madden will all be out during Q3 2016, right around when we’d expect them. NBA Live will follow later, scheduled for Q1 2017 right now.

This all fits nicely with what EA has already announced regarding its not E3, but at E3 time event next month in London and LA. We’re expecting to see three new EA Sports titles there and it looks like we’ve got the confirmation on which those will be.

Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry Coming Out of Retirement for FIFA 17

France football legend Thierry Henry has sent Arsenal fans into overdrive by revealing he will be joining an upcoming videogame.

Current Sky Sports pundit Henry tweeted that he had been at a shoot to become a playable character on a game.

The tweet reads: I will actually be put into a computer game as a playable character. You will find out shortly…

We would imagine that Henry will be joining FIFA 17 as a new legend card on Ultimate Team, and the picture he tweeted is from one of FIFA’s mobile scanning booths.

Assuming this is for FIFA, and not PES, Henry will join fellow Arsenal heroes Davor Suker, David Seaman, Dennis Bergkamp, Sol Campbell, Freddie Ljungberg, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires as fellow FIFA legends.

Although before we hear an official announcment we cannot say for sure.

It’s equally possible this could be something for Konami’s next Pro Evo game.

After all, Henry was previously a PES cover star for Pro Evo 4 and 5 during the game’s greatest ever period in the mid 2000’s.

Your Favorite Soccer Game Becomes a Free Game for Access Members

ea-and-origin-access

Good news for Xbox One and Windows 10 gamers and subscribers to EA Access and Origin Access: Electronic Arts has decided to add FIFA 16 to the Vault, a move that should excite football players around the world. With the FIFA games longed deemed the best video game for the sport of football, EA’s latest edition is no exception. The new game brings much of what players have come to enjoy from previous title with improvements and new gameplay features to push the experience further.

“FIFA 16 will be coming to The Vault for EA Access on Xbox One and Origin Access members on PC beginning April 19,” reads the announcement from EA. “FIFA 16 innovates across the entire pitch to deliver a balanced, authentic, and exciting football experience that lets you play your way. You’ll have Confidence in Defending, take Control in Midfield, and produce more Moments of Magic than ever before.”

The most notable improvement is the ability to allow a player to slide tackle and get up soon after to keep pressuring the attacker. There have also been improvements to defense, midfield, and attacking gameplay. Most importantly are the improvements to the goalkeeper: now, he’s much better than in previous games so players should now have more confidence in the final backline.

What about the option to use female football teams? It’s in this edition as well and is probably the biggest new feature in FIFA 16, one that has not been talked about much since the game was released back in 2015. We also haven’t seen many players using female teams on YouTube, but seeing as football is a sport with a strong male following, this is not surprising at all.

EA Access is only available on the Xbox One and Origin Access is only available on Windows PC. The service costs $6.99 per month, or $29.99 per year, to play any game in the Vault. At the moment, there are 15 games in the Vault.

Ultimate Team Needs to Evolve in FIFA 17

The development team has sought to introduce a new variation in the current installment of the series with the Draft experience, which challenges gamers to use a limited number of players to create a competitive team.

But bigger innovations are required for Ultimate Team in the coming FIFA 17 to make sure that gamers stay engaged and continue buying player packs, a business that has created a very solid revenue stream for Electronic Arts.

No information has yet been offered about the football sim title that will be launched later in the year, and presumably, an official reveal will come during the events that the publisher is planning to run alongside E3 2016.

Rumor suggests that, for the first time in the past few years, Lionel Messi, the star of Argentina and Barcelona, will no longer be featured on the cover because of a commercial dispute between him and Electronic Arts.

Apparently, the video game company is looking for another big star to replace him, and the focus is currently on the greatest clubs in the Premier League.

FIFA 16 Guide: Play the Wings if in Doubt

With teams more inclined to defend in depth, moving the ball through the centre of the pitch often necessitates patience and no small amount of finesse. If you can’tget the right kind of movement between the lines to create space in your opponent’s half, or would like to engineer a faster style of play, shift the focus to the wings.

If you can time them to match a burst forward by a winger or overlapping full-back, low but powerful through-balls (L1+Triangle button/LB+Y button) played close to the sidelines can set up an opportunity to deliver the ball into the box. It’s not particularly hard to lure AI-controlled full-backs out of position to clear a path, your mileage will vary against human opponents, though. We’ve heard word that many players are struggling to deal with crosses, so expect this to be the go-to strategy in online matches.

Teams that go narrow while defending (either temporarily, or as a chosen tactic) will be given a torrid time by players who favour wing play. If you have a suitably large TV and don’t mind the zoomed-out view, the “Co-op” camera (used here) can give you an edge over opponents who prefer the default perspective.

FIFA 16 Career Mode 10 Best Strikers

Dominating the game but struggling for goals? Here are 10 top strikers to get the net bulging.

Every position on the football pitch is important. We’ve already made the argument for having a dominant midfield over all else in our best midfielders round-up and sure–your midfield can control an entire game for you.

But having all the possession isn’t going to get you anywhere if you don’t have someone to score you some goals.

Even in matches where you’re completely outclassed, one good striker can always give you a chance to snatch a point, or perhaps even three. After all, as beloved football philosopher Michael Owen once said, “Whichever team scores more goals usually wins.”

Here are 10 of the best striking options available in FIFA 16 Career Mode, from ready-made foxes in the box to potential superstars. They are Robert Lewandowski, Neymar, Alexandre Lacazette, Thomas Muller, Antoine Griezmann, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Paco Alcacer, Romelu Lukaku.

MMOBEYS The Secret to Passing in FIFA 16

Much discussion has been made of the new passing incorporated in FIFA 16. Veteran gamers have either praised or grumbled about the new changes in the game that have resulted in poor first touches, weak kicks and even missing their target by significant distances.

Lets be clear, FIFA 15 was focused predominantly on pace. When playing online matches, youd encounter Real Madrid after Real Madrid, simply because of their incredibly speedy wingers, Ronaldo and Bale, who most defenses would struggle to contain. Youd see a decent amount of success simply lobbing the ball forward for these speedsters to chase. And if Ronaldo and Bale are in on goal, theyre unlikely to miss.

EAs answer to this for FIFA 16 was to make the midfield matter, and in doing so, from what I can tell anyway, made speed less powerful. But elsewhere, other key changes have altered the pace of the game. Passes that would easily reach forwards in FIFA 15 are now more likely to be intercepted by more aware defenders. One-touch through balls more often go awry. Its harder to quickly transition from defense into attack, and it feels ever so slightly slower in the build up.

Because of this, some are calling FIFA 16 boring, frustrating and slow. But some have moved to calm knee-jerk reaction to this change. People are suggesting keeping passing simple, and only going for the killer pass out to a winger when theres obvious space to do so. The new driven pass seems to be a useful option for splitting defences, too. All in all, patience is a virtue.

As always, theres a learning curve whenever a new FIFA is released, but FIFA 16s seems to have caught some by surprise. I feel the new gameplay is a step in the right direction, and makes for a more measured, rewarding and ultimately less frustrating competitive play experience. With the inclusion of No Touch Dribbling, there is more focus on a technical build-up play.
